Laker Boys' Ski Team Takes on States
Last week, the Laker Boys’ Ski Team traveled up north to Boyne Highlands for their state meet. The boys were one of three teams to qualify for states from their region and one of eleven teams going to compete in the meet from across the state. They finished 2nd out of 9 teams in their region to advance to states. This is the third ever the boys have made it as a team in school history and the second time in the past three years.
Giant slalom started off the day for the boys - they were off to a good start. As giant slalom came to a conclusion, there were three Laker boys within the top 35. Aidan Parker stood at 19th in the state, while Dawson Sherman and Jonah Wilhelm finished 33rd and 35th. The next event was slalom, where the course seemed to be quite difficult compared to Cannonsburg, the home hill of the Spring Lake Ski Team. The boys wrapped up slalom with two racers in the top 25. Griffin Phares came in at 24th and Dawson Sherman at 25th.
Overall, it was a great experience and race for the team, and hopefully a great send off for the Laker seniors.
