NOCH Hosts Blood Drive for The American Red Cross
North Ottowa Community Hospital, commonly known as NOCH, hosted a blood drive through the American Red Cross at Harvest Church in downtown Spring Lake. The drive lasted from October 15th at 10:00 am to 3:45 pm.
When asked about the event and what it entailed, NOCH lab director Nicole Kamp stated that, “NOCH’s Lab has a contractual agreement with the American Red Cross to use them for our blood product we keep here for patients. As part of that relationship, we work together to host blood drives every 8 weeks or so.”
Kamp also explained some of the struggles they have had with hosting this blood drive, saying that, “We’ve been doing this for years but with all that was going on with COVID-19 we’ve had to host them offsite the past year or so.”
After the blood drive, when asked about the success of the event, Kamp stated that “We had a relatively successful blood drive last week. Due to COVID-19 restrictions surrounding spacing, the number of appointments we were able to schedule was much less than in the past. We were able to collect 27 units of blood out of our 35 appointments we had scheduled which is great! The ones that could not donate are often due to low iron or they developed cold like symptoms and were not eligible.”
The next drive will be December 17th, so if you’re able and eligible, get out to NOCH and donate blood!
