SLHS Ski Team's Region 5 Race Recap

The Spring Lake Varsity Girls’ and Boys’ ski team headed to Canonsburg for their Region 5 race. With several tough schools to beat, they raced against big teams like Cadillac, East Grand Rapids, and Grand Rapids Christian.

The Spring Lake Girls’ team started the cold morning with Slalom and Mya Phares ended in 19th, Zoe Komar in 23rd, Paige Sharp in 28th, Alexis Kotrch in 48th, Ani Hough in 53rd, and Kara Constantine in 55th place.

In the afternoon, the girls placed well in their Giant Slalom runs with placements of 20th, 21st, 23rd, 38th, 47th, 51st from Zoe Komar, Paige Sharp, Mya Phares, Alexis Kotrch, Ani Hough, and Kara Constantine, respectively. The Lady Lakers finished in 5th overall out of the 12 teams in their region.

The Spring Lake Boys’ team began by racing their two Giant Slalom runs. The boys did an amazing job and had Aidan Parker finishing in 7th, Dawson Sherman in 10th, Griffin Phares in 12th, Jonah Wilhelm in 15, Charlie Navarre in 22nd, and Ryan Rymal in 24th place.

After finishing their first two runs, the boys would conclude their day with two runs in Slalom. The boys claimed 5th, 10th, 15th, 21st, 39th, and 55th place by Aidan Parker, Griffin Phares, Dawson Sherman, Jonah Wilhelm, Charlie Navarre, and Ryan Rymal, respectively. The boys had a great day of racing and finished 2nd overall out of 12 teams and qualified for the State Championships.

The Spring Lake Ski Team has their final race together at the Conference Championships on Tuesday, February 16th, where the Girls’ Team will conclude their season. The JV Boys’ Team has their final conference race on Thursday February 18th. The Varsity Boys’ Team will race at Boyne in the State Championship on February 22nd. Make sure to congratulate the Boys’ ski team on their State Championship qualification!
