Sophomore Blake Grimmer Commits to University of Tennessee for Baseball
SLHS sophomore Blake Grimmer is a D1 baseball commit to The University of Tennessee. He has been playing baseball since he was 6 years old and still has a strong growing passion for the sport.
Growing up, Blake was a versatile athlete, with involvement in football and basketball. But, he had always felt more of a pull to baseball. As Blake became more serious about the sport, many colleges began to look at him as a possible player for their team. After offers from Michigan, Louisville, Kentucky, Auburn, Alabama, and South Carolina, he committed to Tennessee on September 11, 2019. When asked about his proudest moment in baseball, Blake states, “In 2019 I got selected to play in the Perfect Game Select Festival 14u. It’s the top 44 8th grade players in the country that get together and play a game. It’s kind of like an all-star game.”
Recreationally, Blake played for Motor City Hitdogs out of Detroit, but he is planning on switching to another team in the summer of 2021: Team Elite, out of Georgia. As far as his future goes, Blake comments, “I think anyone that plays baseball and likes it as much as I do wants to make it to the Major Leagues. But I would really like to play at Tennessee for a few years and if it's right for me, then I hope I can enter the draft and get to play professional baseball. Playing baseball as a job would be the best job in the world, in my opinion, getting paid to play the sport I love would be my top goal.”
