Track & Field Takes W Across the Board vs. Hamilton

On Thursday the 15th, Spring Lake High School’s Track and Field team had their very first meet against Hamilton. Men’s Varsity took Hawkeyes to a 94-42 W, and the Ladies also finished with an 83-45 win.

Overall, both teams ran extremely well. Some top placers in the Women’s events were Avery Hoesktra taking first place in the 100m dash with a PR, Catherine Vandergriff came in a close third in the 100m dash as well. In the 200m dash, Avery Hoekstra also took first. Isabella Padula was able to clinch second place in the 400m, and Maya Noren took a close third. Lily Parker took first place in the 800m with a PR. Next up, Makaela Schmidt took third place in the 1600m with a PR. Lily Parker took first in the 3200m. There were also strong finishes from the SL relay teams in the 4x100 and 4x400. Lizzy Koratich, and Sadie Williams took 1st and 2nd in High Jump as well.

The Boys’ team also came out strong in the end. A few top placers in the Men’s events featured Gabe Tardani, Brodie Lightfoot, and John Tague in the 100m dash finishing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, respectively. In the 200m dash, Gabe Tardani, John Tague, and Joel Witte took 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively. In the 400m, Carter Phillips and Ian Veine took 1st and 3rd, respectively. In the 800m, Ian Hill and Tanner Guczwa took 1st and 2nd place. Ian Hill also grabbed 1st in the 1600m, and Callen Carrier in the 3200m. In the relays, SL came out strong in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, ad 4x800. Ethan Gravengoed, Mason Pomery, and Travis Throop took first in High Jump, Pole Vault, and Discus, respectively.

Overall, the Boys’ and Girls’ Track & Field teams raced extremely well this past week. They have an upcoming meet away at Coopersville this Thursday, the 22nd. Be sure to wish them luck!
