Varsity and JV Girls Soccer Loses Tough Battle with Unity Christian

On Saturday, 4/17, the Spring Lake Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity teams took on Whitehall Saturday Morning in their second game of the season. Both the JV and Varsity teams did not have their coaches, due to COVID circumstances. The varsity team currently has 2019 SLHS graduate Gracie Vanlangevelde as their coach and the JV team currently has 2019 SLHS graduate Kate Gilchrist as their coach.

The JV team went out strong with a mercy win of 8-0. The Varsity team came out ready to battle after their 0-0 tie from Wednesday to Hamilton. Junior Meah Bajt came out scoring in the first few minutes giving the Lady Lakers some fire and a point on the board. Followed by a second goal from Sophomore Lauren Cavalier. Senior Zoe Komar took the third goal. The Lakers ended with a score of 8-0, Cavalier with 3, Bajt with 3, and Komar with 2. Junior Eryn Bouwhuis took on the kicks for set plays and gave great opportunities. Other great performances came from Freshmen goalie Jessica Stewart who did not allow any shots on goal as well Senior center back Kate Lewkowski.

The Lakers also took on Unity Christian High School Monday Night. The JV team had a tough battle losing 5-0.

On Monday, 4/19, Coach Becky was able to return for the game and bring back some normality for the rivalry game. The Varsity team lost a hard fought battle with Unity Christian, 4-3. The Lakers had strong shots and finishing when they were able to get the ball. Junior Eryn Bouwhuis had a strong game getting the first goal for the Lakers off of a free kick. Senior forward Zoe Komar gave the Lakers two more goals with assists from Meah Bajt and Eryn Bouwhuis. The defensive line held Unity Christian well with Kate Lewkowski dominating the center, but they were pressed with their speed and fast passing abilities. Freshmen Ella Andree had a strong game in the midfield creating offensive attacks.
